ALL ABOUT ME
Who I Am
Hey there ! I'm Amanda - a certified Birth and Post-natal doula who believes in supporting you throughout this significant transforming time in your life.
I am a firm believer that Birth is a rite of passage and your rights and feelings are all valid.
I know how it feels to be confused about our birthing rights and choices; especially in the throws of pregnancy, labour, birth & during postpartum. I can empathise with the conflicting advice and information and pressure that we can sometimes be put under to make the 'right choices' It is not just enough to have a healthy baby. We want a healthy Mumma as well.
I am the mother of 1 earth side babe and 4 angel babies. I have lived in Melbourne since 2017 with my partner and now daughter and moved here after living in London for ten years. I grew up in rural NSW so I am a country girl at heart. I have always enjoyed travel, cultures and have a huge love for photography - these days it is mainly taking photos of my daughter and for family, friends and clients.
I have had a near twenty year career as an Early Childhood Teacher / Nanny which has allowed me many unforgettable experiences all leading to here and now. A woman who has been shaped, tested and formed and who is completely dedicated in providing women-centered care.
In all honesty, when I moved back to Australia I had no idea what a doula was. I remember clearly sitting in my Mums courtyard among boxes containing my entire life while I stumbled across an article in an old health magazine about doulas.
THIS IS IT !! THIS IS MY CALLING!! MY PURPOSE !! I was quite excited . Being a doula encompasses me as a person, a woman and as a mother.
The next day I phoned the college to enrol; I was giddy with excitement. My new beginning.
As time has gone on, I have now realised that I have been doula-ing much longer then from when I became certified.
As a 12 year old girl I was my Mothers support as she birthed my sister. I will be eternally grateful to her for allowing me to be by her side and completely normalising birth for me . An unforgettable moment in my life which enabled me to witness the immense power, beauty and rawness of a birthing woman. A goddess
From working with many families who were either just starting their adventure into parenthood or were adding to their tribe; I was there to hold and guide them through their precious transitions.
To holding and nurturing young women and girls in Peru. I thank them for trusting me and lighting a fire in my belly to understand the importance of advocacy, support and human rights and equality.
I firmly believe that knowledge can be a super power and as your doula will work very hard for you to recieve the maternal respect and care you deserve. I want you to birth your way feeling dignified and knowing your rights.
Apart from my beautiful family, friends and all things birth, I love hunting down a good coffee, travelling ( pre-covid life) watching dodgy horror movies, reading, cooking, photography, trees (especially ones that go well with picnics) swimming ( I love all things water! The ocean, pools, baths, water births, rivers, lakes ... you get my drift) bad jokes and liquid grapes.
If you have made it this far- I thank you! I am ready to chat and align with you as you tap into your vision and birth your way. Upholding your postpartum space and time is vitally important and I am excited to bear witness and be by your side throughout your amazing journey.
You Matter. Your Pregnancy Matters. Your Birth Matters. Your Postpartum Journey Matters
Love Amanda xx
